The MIT Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC) is an internationally recognized facility at the forefront of plasma physics and fusion energy research. It is located on the main MIT campus in Cambridge, MA and comprises a team of almost 200 top-tier students, scientists, engineers and technicians. The PSFC recently announced a new, accelerated pathway to fusion energy that is based on the development and demonstration of the world’s highest performing superconducting fusion magnets and the design of the first net-energy fusion device: the SPARC tokamak. The PSFC is undertaking searches for exceptional individuals who want to work in the fast-paced, team-oriented environment of the SPARC project to achieve net fusion energy.  Responsibilities:

  • Obtain and maintain licenses for fork truck, crane and other work related equipment     
  • Ability to weld, braze, and solder a variety of metals
  • Work from mechanical drawings to weld sometimes complex assemblies
  • Perform a variety of related duties in support of magnet programs.
  • Assist with shipping functions of e.g. building crates and loading and unloading of materials
  • Help maintain welding shop and managing tool crib
  • Learn from senior technicians, engineers, and scientists to successfully complete all assigned tasks

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Graduation from a two year technical school or equivalent (technical military training accepted)
  • Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of tools and equipment
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. unassisted.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods – 8 hours minimum.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and able to maneuver in tight spaces.
  • Must be able to work all shift hours, able to work overtime and weekend as needed
  • Must follow all safety guidelines and procedures

Salary Range (Hourly Rate): $31.21 – $34.77
